It can be so hard to find balance: meeting everyone’s needs, living up to our responsibilities, finding time for ourselves. Sometimes being outside can make all the difference. It’s amazing how different we feel, how we all seem to be better versions of ourselves. In that mindset, it wasn’t hard to see this little island for what it is: a little moment of peace amid the chaos.

After a cold and rainy winter, it was finally warm enough to take the kids for the first hike of the year. It never ceases to surprise me how different we all are in nature, even the kids, how we can breathe more deeply and feel more at peace. That weekend felt much like this tiny island amid the rapids: a little moment of calm amid the turbulence.
