Inner Child

Original 11 x 14” Oil on Aluminum Panel

The wonder of new-fallen snow, an unsure glance, a heartbeat of hesitation. I felt such kinship with this little girl as I painted, as though I were painting myself over three decades ago. Yet that inner child still makes herself felt: my delight at new snowfall, my hesitation in entering the unknown. The scared girl I feel I am sometimes when entering a boardroom full of managers who will decide my fate.

Raising my own kids has rekindled my awareness of my inner child. Has made me face the hopes I have for this future generation. And I hope it has made me a better, more complete, person.

There is some societal belief that we must set aside childlike things to become adults. And I fear we are the lesser because of it. I hope we can remember this: feel your emotions. Find delight where you can, and always hope.
